| Introduction |
|
Traditionally, graphical output used to illustrate various development scenarios, likely impacts and mitigation options put forward as part of the EIA process has been in the form of two dimensional hardcopy plans. This style of presentation, while sufficient to communicate information to a technical audience, is not easily interpreted by non-technical people. The demonstration 3D EIA initiative aims to investigate presentation methods using interactive 3D models to better communicate EIA issues and thus promote Continuous Public Involvement and stakeholder engagement. For this enhanced demonstration product, 3D EIA VRML models have been generated for a fictitious road development project illustrating two different development scenarios that could potentially have noise and air impacts. Users are then able to interact with the models through a custom browser. The screen can be captured and loaded into MS Paint TM where annotations can be added. Users may then submit the marked up graphic along with a feedback form to EPD. Under the original demonstration 3DEIA project, fixed animations were produced for a second scenario illustrating a fictitious dredging exercise. These can also be accessed through this site. |

Description of the Road Development Project 3D Models have been generated for a fictitious road project in which two alignment options are to be investigated; a tunnel option, and a tunnel and an open cut option. The interactive 3D VRML models show the baseline conditions (paying attention to sensitive receivers), the two proposed alignments, effects of the alignments on sensitive receivers without mitigation, and the improvements resulting from mitigation. Click on the demo button and then the Road Scenario button to begin. |

Description of the Pipeline Project under this demonstration, animations were generated for a fictitious gas pipeline project in which two alignment options were investigated. The animations show the baseline conditions, visualisations of the proposed alignments, effects of the alignments on sensitive receivers without mitigation, and the improvements resulting from mitigation. Click on the demo button and then the Pipeline Scenario button to begin. |
