Mitigated Impacts

The purpose of the material on this page is to illustrate how appropriate mitigation will reduce impacts of the selected road alignment option.

The illustration shows the impacts of Option 1 (Tunnel) after mitigation. Transparent Noise Barriers have been installed along the road edge. This has significantly reduced the noise levels at both the school and the Hospital. Note that the alignment has been placed so as to avoid disturbing Ecologically Sensitive Areas near the village. The VRML model allows users to view the various sensitive receivers and mitigated states. For this demonstration, Option 2 (Open Cut) has been ruled out as mitigation cannot significantly reduce the visual impact of the alignment as seen in the previous VRML models.

Alternative Landuse Strategy

It is very often important to examine the adoption of alternative land use strategies for a given project area. The following animation illustrates how an entirely underground alignment allows for alternative land use options for the project area.
